Retreat in the Heart of Darjeeling

Some people have told me that pictures on my last trip were heavily focused on FOOD. Welcome to Helsinki, Finland! Here is a cup of delicious blueberry soup.

And here we are in the home of Irma Syvaranta with Pirkko Ojanen and Anneli Chapin preparing to have rice porridge pies (Karjalan piirakka) with egg butter. This was after salmon and whitefish in the harbor marketplace. (At the top.)

And, of course, there was Finnish ice cream and fresh strawberries and blueberries. Delicious Finnish ice cream could be the subject of a separate essay.
